Levan Kakhishvili, a Researcher at the Center of Political Research conducted a research about the importance of stable political parties for democracy. The researcher was conducted for the Georgian Institute of Politics (GIP) and examines how party programs correspond to party ideologies, how party programs reflect public opinion, and why and how young people decide to join political parties. The findings of the research have been published as a policy brief by GIP.

The research has found that party programmes and their pre-election promises tend to differ from the declared ideology of a given party. Furthermore, analysis of the pre-election manifestos suggests that Georgian parties do not fully represent the issues about which the public is concerned. Finally, according to the research, young Georgians tend to rely on their personal networks when they choose to join a party and their values when they identify themselves to their party.

Based on the research findings recommendations were developed for political parties in Georgia, government representatives, the civil society organizations and think thanks as well as media and donor organizations.
